Field Trips

This morning Collin attended a performance of "Twas the Night before Christmas" at Stages Theatre in Hopkins. He is generally very tight-lipped about these excursions, but we gathered that he enjoyed this trip a little more than his previous class field trip.

On November 6, their class rode the bus to Orchestra Hall in downtown Minneapolis for a Jack and the Beanstalk Kinder Konzert, which “brings the magic of music to area preschoolers, with musical compositions created just for them. The program includes music learning activities and a performance by a Minnesota Orchestra ensemble.”

I think expectation setting may have contributed to Collin’s poor reception of the orchestra, as we were under the assumption that the class was attending a theatre production versus a musical interpretation. We prepared for days by reading our paperback version from Auntie Laura. Adam fielded questions like, "Dad, do you think there will be a real giant there?" Since the song they learned to introduce scales, “Jack is climbing the beanstalk-Now he’s sliding all the way down”, wasn’t mentioned in our reading...and the only giants were a string bass, harp, bass drum and bassoon, he was visibly disappointed in the experience.
