'Tis a Gift to be Simple

On March 2, our baby celebrated his Golden Birthday. The Weepies are on to something...the world, does indeed, spin madly on.

I'm embarrassed to admit that Nolan's party preparations took a backseat to the respiratory illness that has a grip on our household. In an attempt to make the day special, Nolan and I went to CUB on Monday after dropping Aaron off at preschool to select a birthday cake. After careful consideration, Nolan chose chocolate marbled yellow bundt cake with fudge frosting and pastel princess candles. On our way to the check-out, Nolan eyed a rainbow colored rubber bouncy ball in the bin that he selected as his birthday present from Mommy and Daddy. He later received the remainder of his presents, some Trio blocks and colored bubbles.

Adam stayed home from work on Wednesday because he was feeling poor, which allowed us the opportunity to spend the day celebrating Nolan. When we asked Nolan "How old are you? Two?" Nolan replied, "No, Threeee, threeee" giggle...giggle.

Nolan was delighted with his meager birthday, aggressively plunging his face into the remainder of his cake after his piece was served, and later, opening the birthday card he received in the mail from his friend, Olivia, viewing the e-card he received from Grandma and Grandpa EIO after talking with Grandma on the phone, talking with Auntie Ellie and Uncle Ryan, and finally kicking his new ball around the house with his brothers. If only the rest of us could be as content with such simplicity.





On Friday Aaron and I took Nolan to his 2-year well child exam. Nolan weighed 28 pounds, 6 ounces (55th percentile), was 35.5 inches tall (79th percentile), and had a head circumference of 20.5 inches (99th percentile). He had to endure one shot, his second dose of Hep A. Aaron was devastated after watching the nurse administer the injection, repeatedly telling me through Nolan's sobs that it wasn't fair that Nolan had to get a shot, when he didn't have to get one during his 4 year visit. Dr. Kramarczuk is not concerned with Nolan's tied tongue, encouraging us to take a wait and see approach in regards to its affect on his speech development.

On Saturday, Honey Honey and Minnows stopped by bearing gifts for the birthday boys. Nolan was thrilled to receive a few Sesame Street books, a t-shirt from Cabo, a travel pillow, and some education money.


Later Saturday afternoon, Nolan partied with Collin, Aaron, and the Anderson boys at Chuck-E-Cheese's to celebrate Collin's 6th birthday, affectionately hugging Barney after a ride with him on the train. We finally discovered the toddler rides near the end of our outing. Nolan was pleased to insert his tokens and ride on either Bob the Builder's Scoop or Barney's train, with James' encouragement. The Andersons gifted Nolan pip squeak washable markers.
