Be The One Run

Waiting for the race to begin in the Lake Harriet band shell, we pose for a family picture.
Collin's lack of enthusiasm as we parked the truck on Linden Hills Blvd. was understandable. We instructed the boys to stay in their seats while we unfolded the strollers in the pouring rain early this morning for the 1st annual Be The One 5K Run.

The rain let up at 9:00am, just as the race began. After an early equipment switcheroo, Adam expertly maneuvered Collin in the jogging stroller we inherited from Karen, while I followed with Aaron and Nolan in the double Bob stroller we borrowed from Scott and Anna. We weaved through walkers and joggers in the rain soaked streets around Lake Harriet, filled with the electric energy that unites the participants of such events.
Early in the race, still a little crabby, Collin inquired, "Mom and Dad, why are we running in this race?"

"We are running to celebrate our health...and because we can. We are helping to raise money for all the people that have difficulty affording their medical treatments, because its very expensive to spend the night in a hospital."
We completed the race in approximately 30 minutes, the first strollers to cross the finish line. Collin and Aaron hopped out for the last 0.2 miles, running enthusiastically to the finish. Thanks to the generous support of Grandma and Grandpa EIO, Auntie Ellie, and Uncle Reid and Alysha, Team Beduhn raised $175. Our larger team, the Highspeed Haplotypes, raised $6,488. Overall, 1,599 participants raised $145,651.21. The money will help to cure patients with diseases like leukemia and lymphoma, and give hope to families with sick loved ones.
