The Golden Rule?

It has become apparent that somewhere along the line Collin's understanding of the Golden Rule has become tragically distorted. While getting ready to drive down to Gustavus to spend the day with Jordan, Braxon, Carter, and Skyla Dale we exchanged the following dialogue:

"Collin, can you explain to me why Aaron is in the living room crying...again?"

"Well, Mom...that's simple. He hit me in the face with the ball, so I hit him back. You know the Golden Rule says, 'Do to others what they do to you'."

"Collin, your brother probably hit you by accident. And actually, the Golden Rule says the opposite, 'Do unto others what you would have others do unto you.' What you did is called 'eye for an eye', and it's not what we want to do. When you get hit, you need to take a deep breath and ask yourself if that's how you want to be treated. If not, then you shouldn't do it back."

Silence. "I don't think you have that right Mom...I'm going to have to ask Dad about this."
