Little Drummer Boy

Tonight, Collin, along with his first grade classmates at Hillcrest Community School, performed in the First Grade Festival, which commemorated the first 100 days of school. Collin surprised us not only with 2 speaking parts, but also a turn at the xylophone for "Blue Bells", an American jump rope chant. Their effort was impressive and the performance was remarkable.

"During this piece, the steady beat is played on xylophones that are designed for use by school children. Any bars that are not to be played are simply removed! The drummers first play a steady beat, then play the 'word rhythms' of the names of each month of the year."

Collin says, "We had our very own Thanksgiving feast in our classroom. It gave us a chance to practice our table manners."

"Sing a Rainbow" by Arthur Hamilton
"First graders study primary and secondary colors during art class where they made the color wheels that are displayed. This song motivates children to sing using a light register."

"One Zero, Zero"
"One hundred days of learning..."
