Pneumonia

We've had so many sleepless nights the past 10 days that I'm not sure it would've even occurred to either Adam or I that it was finally time for Aaron to see Dr. Kramarczuk...except that Lori left a voice mail message last night saying she would be closed today because everyone in her care has strep.

In light of that information, I promptly called our clinic this morning and got Aaron an appointment for 2:00. He is just not getting over the flu. We've thought so many times that he's finally well, and then his fever returns, or he coughs so hard he vomits. Saturday night his breathing was so shallow we nearly took him to the emergency room. Yesterday he didn't want to go to school even though it was costume day...and after biking to the blue park in the afternoon, he sat on his bike and watched the big boys play football and declined a rousing game of freeze tag.

The chest x-rays confirmed what Dr. Kramarczuk already suspected...Aaron has pneumonia in both of his lungs. With a pulse-ox of only 91%, both Dr. K and the shadowing pediatrician were amazed that Aaron was doing so well, jumping on and off my lap, playing, laughing...even demonstrating his sticky fingers magic trick with a tongue depressor, which prompted a challenging "stick through the cheek" counter from the doctor. Anything under 90% and we would be headed to the hospital.

They don't know what we know...Aaron's a tough kid. We promptly started oral antibiotics, Cefdinir, at 4:00 and will return for a check-up tomorrow afternoon. We're not out of the woods just yet...if Dr. K doesn't think he's improving we may be headed for the hospital anyway.
