Redfish Lake

Beduhn Idaho Vacation 2010 Travel Log

August 3, 2010-Day 4

Today we packed up and headed up over Galena for a day in the Sawtooths and Stanley. Our first stop was the Sawtooth National Recreational Area Headquarters to learn about Smokey Bear (not to be confused with Smokey the Bear!). Since the Galena Summit overlook is closed, we settled for the Salmon River overlook. It wasn't the same...but tradition had to give in light of all the construction vehicles.

Since Nolan was asleep in the car, he wasn't subjected to mandatory family picture opportunity.
The Sawtooths

Braxon, frustrated with his little brother, Carter, decides to retaliate with what he believes is a very naughty word, "BABY!" Amused, the adults adopt the phrase for the remainder of the weekend.

Next, to Ellen's dismay, we were off to Adam's zen spot, the Sawtooth Fish Hatchery to visit the big Chinook. After feeding the fingerlings in the raceways, we ogled over the adult salmon, and finally threw our borrowed lines into the kid's fishing pond in an attempt to hook an adolescent rainbow trout. We spent the entire afternoon at Redfish lake, splashing in the ice cold water, catching minnows, and playing in the sand. By the time we arrived at the Bridge Street Grill in Upper Stanley for dinner, Aaron and Nolan were asleep in the car. After my multiple attempts at rousing Aaron fail, Collin sincerely questions, "Mom, is he dead?"

Nolan is not entirely sure about the minnows, which are definitely worse for the wear after being manhandled by a toddler.

Ellen joined us in for an evening game of Catan, where we crowed Jordan, King. It appears there is a home field advantage...or the rest of us are horribly out of practice.
