August 4 & 5, 2010-Days 5 & 6
Heather had to call into work this morning, so the rest of us went to Penny Pond to fish for trout, in a pond stocked by the DNR specifically for individuals with disabilities and kids.
Adolescent rainbow trout Nolan and Carter thought it would be more fun to scare the fish over to the fisher people on the bridge, so they threw rocks with Beth on the opposite end of the pond.
There's always time to stop and smell the wildflowers.
The Coyote Yurt was located off the East Fork of Baker Creek Road. Collin sat pensively on the side of the car adjacent to the canyon, and continually reminded Daddy that we wouldn't want our car to fall off the road. The Coyote Yurt was constructed for winter back country skiing, but we learned it also works nicely as a base camp for people with young kids.
Nolan snuggles in for his afternoon nap in the well-equipped yurt. Heather and Carter Dale, relaxing in the squeaky hammock
Within minutes of arriving at the yurt, the boys were in the woods, searching for sticks. Collin and Braxon constructed an improvised teeter totter.
It's hard to believe that chips and salsa taste even better when enjoyed in the mountains. You put the lime with the coconut...
Enjoying his favorite summer food, corn on the cob, Nolan munches on Auntie Ellie's lap.
Whoa...that is a full tummy!Once again...the kids look like they've spent their entire lives in the woods, without a single bath...ever.
A Northface ad?...a Tanqueray ad?...or maybe both...
Yet another family picture.
The Dales
The view
Roasting marshmallows
Collin is less than impressed that Braxon joined him for a picture of his fort. The fort was off limits to anyone under 5...no exceptions.
Waking in the yurt...this was the best night of sleep for people with the last name Beduhn the entire trip. Ahhh...the fresh mountain air. Collin immediately asks if we think anyone has snuck out to his fort during the night.
Morning family picture on the porch Auntie Ellie and Nolan enjoy some quality time
Don't tell the forest service about the wild flower bouquet
"Heaven is the Coyote Yurt"...my favorite moment of the trip.
Happy hikers...Nolan can't be bothered with yet another picture.
Now show me your funny faces...
After we returned from the yurt, the boys splashed around in the Dale's hot tub (ie, outdoor playpen), while the adults unpacked. Tonight Heather regained her crown as Queen of Catan.
