Finally...A Caterpillar

Tuesday morning there was a surprise waiting for me in my cube when I arrived at work. Happily crunching away on a milkweed plant in a canning jar, with a screen rubberbanded to the mouth, was a monarch butterfly caterpillar Jane and Lily found for the boys.
I'm surprised that they were able to find one this late, especially since we had such poor luck on our South Dakota caterpillar adventure two weeks ago.

It is miraculous to watch the transformation of these caterpillars. One moment they are crawling around the jar, and the next they are snugly nestled in a beautiful gold-rimmed cocoon. I'm so grateful for Jane's gift...and the opportunity for my boys to witness a miracle.
