The Dales

I met Heather in 1998, the summer that Adam and I met at LHBC. http://www.lutherheights.org/. Adam and Heather, friends from high school, drove out to camp together from St. Cloud. Adam dropped Heather off at camp prior to the start of staff training and continued driving West to visit a special lady friend on the coast. I had also arrived early at camp, following a road trip with Mom and Dad, Paco, Cherie and Jeff. Upon arrival we were greeted by Amy Willen, who promptly showed us our sleeping arrangements in Snowy Side and walked us up to the future site of the MASH tent, where Heather, Debbie and a few others were already busy moving rocks and leveling the ground with shovels.

The following summer, Heather assumed the role of Program Director, following Kate's "retirement". Heather, Debbie and I sat in a circle one night before staff training began and pinkie promised each other that we wouldn't again be distracted by relationships with members of the opposite sex. Funny enough, each of us broke that promise, and two of us are now married and have children with those men.

Working side by side in the fresh mountain air, with all of our basic needs provided for, we were able to build community...friendships unique to any other time in our life. Here we were free to question our faith, spirituality...and in doing so, feel closer to the Divine than we had at any other time in our lives.

Heather and Jordan visited us today before returning to their second home in Sun Valley, Idaho for the summer. We look forward to the time when we can again share mountaintop experiences...with each other and our growing families. For now, we'll settle for some quality time in the Midwest.
