The Beduhn grandparents were named during a Memorial Day weekend trip to Hill City in 2007. Collin was a little over 2 years old. He was out on the dock, helping Ed and Adam pull minnows from the minnow bucket for their fishing lines. Collin kept saying, "here BaPa, minnows"...which was quickly shortened to "BaPa Minnows".
On their way back up to the cabin from the lake, Collin was dawdling behind Grandma. Wendy repeatedly told him, "come on, honey, honey", which landed her the name, "Grandma Honey Honey."
During the same weekend, he also named Great Grandma Shirley. We went for a boat ride to her point, and as the boat slowed to dock at her cabin, water splashed up onto the rocks, hitting Grandma, who was standing on the shore. She said, "Hey...don't you splash me!" Collin thought this was hilarious and from that time on, he has affectionately called her "Nana Splash".
Collin liked to sit on the piano bench beside me and sing songs from our Wee Sing Children's Song book while I played. One of his favorites was "Old McDonald"...only we changed the words to, "Grandpa Russell has a farm, EI, EIO." Collin started referring to the farm as the "EIO"...and it's inhabitants as "BaPa and Grandma EIO".
A little over 2 years later, these names endure. It will be a sad day for everyone when the kids outgrow them...
