When we brought Nolan home from the hospital Collin was aloof and very skeptical. To his credit, he had been through this routine once before.
Nolan, under the fleece ladybug car seat cover, was set in the living room, while we smothered Collin and Aaron with affection. Then we asked if they wanted to meet their little brother. Aaron, who had already visited at the hospital, was eager to pull open the cover and poke, prod, and plant juicy kisses on Nolan. Collin said a polite, "No thanks"...and avoided the living room like the plague.
However, Collin has slowly been warming to the idea of another little brother. Lately, when Nolan is having a difficult time, Collin will start singing our bedtime lullaby, a little James Taylor song that begins, "The sun is surely sinking down, but the moon is slowly rising...and this old world must still be spinning 'round...yes, and I still love you..."
Even though Collin doesn't appear to have inherited any musical ability from me...it's still a very precious gesture. Amazingly, it does seem to calm Nolan... at least most of the time.
